Cancer conference was held at a resort hotel in a place which is a mountainous summer resort at 1300 mt height from sea level, about 3-4 hours journey by bus from Pune. The hotel had a beautiful swimming pool and the hotel is located on a mountain. The hotel was almost all rented out for the event.

The fresh mountain air was refreshing for the tired ones after the brain storming sessions at the conference. But the conference was continuing from morning till evening and there was not much time to take advantage of the beautiful nature around.

One famous oncologist from India and overseas seems to have participated. But Dr. Sadanand looked very happy about the success of this conference.

The participants were keen to know whether Ayurved can cure cancer. BSD cancer project has produced good results. The data consisted of 150 patients annually that means 15 patients per field of research per year. It is unfortunate that the number is not enough for scientific proof. However, more than 40 patients had come to the venue of the conference. Most of them did not understand the scientific presentations that were being made in the conference.

They could speak nothing but Marathi, but they sat in the conference for all three days and were listening attentively. That was because in case in the proceedings of the conference the western medicinal practitioners wanted to ask any questions to know more in detail after they had studied the case reports. They were there as the proof of the project. But they were not forced to come. They were grateful to Dr. Sadanand who had cured their cancer. And that feeling of gratitude must have brought them there. Though the number was small, their coming to conference itself was an answer to the question of whether cancer can be cured by Ayurved.

In the conference 5 years back, even though it was an international conference the presentations were in Marathi and Hindi and did not mean much to foreigners. But this time all presentations were in English organization was good, and the staff was running the whole conference very systematically.

In these 5 years, Dr. Sadanand has trained staff very well indeed. I saw that among the staff was Dr.’s younger son Sukumar who has just graduated as a doctor. When I met him first he was a young boy but now he is a strong person, supporting his father like a pillar. It was a moving sight.

日本とインド両国政府が、今年を「日印交流の年」と発表したことを、皆様にお知らせできますことを大変嬉しく思います。そのため今年一年は、皆様の周りでインドに関連する多くの催し物が開催されることでしょう。ダルシャナムとしましても、この日印両国におけるインドの祭典に貢献するかたちで、本年次のような多くの催しを企画していく予定です。

v     サダナンダ博士と佐藤真紀子が、先日インドで行われました、バラティーア・サンスクルティ・ダルシャン財団の主催したガン学会の報告を行います。その場で軽いインド料理を味わうことができます。 

v     佐藤真紀子とニーラ・ゴドボレの２人によるレクチャーシリーズでは、健康に良くて簡単に作れるアーユルヴェーダの料理をご紹介します。

v     今年は、幸先の良い５月の満月の日である5月２日（インドではこの日を仏陀の誕生日としています）を皮切りに、サンスクリット語博士で、サーマヴェーダの中にインド音楽の原点を探る論文を書いた、作曲家で講師でもあるチャンドラカント博士による、「ヴェーダのマントラ・チャンティング　ワークショップシリーズ」を披露いたします。

v     今年の前半、４月１５日・５月３日・５月５日にグループミュージックセッションを企画いたしました。どうぞ同封いたしました案内をご覧ください。

v    シタールとハーモニカを特徴とする今年の最初のコンサートは、４月５日に「きゅりあん」で行われます。新しい波Ｐart３と題したこのコンサートでは、シタールとハーモニカという異なった楽器のコラボレーションでインドの伝統音楽を楽しむことができる、またとない機会となります。シタールと日本人のブルースハープとによってもたらされる、素晴らしい経験となるでしょう。どうぞお見逃しのないようお願い申し上げます。

I would like to thank you for your support and cooperation during Dr. Sadanand’s visits last year. It is good to announce that he will be visiting us again during April 11- 17 2007.

I am very happy to inform you that the Japanese and Indian Governments have declared this year, 2007, as 'India-Japan Friendship Year'. So this year you will see many events related to India around you. Darshanam is also a contributory organization for this Festival of India in Japan and India. So we are planning many events this year.

As part of the Festival of India in Japan, we have Indian and Japanese cultural exchange events lined up.

• Dr. Sadanand and Makiko Sato will present a brief report on the recently held Cancer Conference in India organized by our Bharatiya Sanskriti Darshan Trust. Enjoy the report with light Indian food.
• A joint lecture series with Makiko Sato and Neera Godbole - introducing simple Ayurvedic recipes for good health.
• Starting the auspicious day of the full moon day of May 2, the birth anniversary of Buddha, we present a series of Vedic Mantra Chanting Workshops this year with Dr. Chandrakant, composer and teacher, who holds a Ph.D. in Sanskrit for his thesis 'Samavedic Origins of Indian Music'.
• We have organized group music sessions on 4/15,5/3 and 5/5 in this half of the year. Please find attached information on the same.
• This year’s first concert features the Sitar and Harmonica to be performed on 5 April in the Curian Hall. This is Part 3 of the New Wave Concert Series. The sitar with Japanese blues harp will be another wonderful musical evening - don't miss it.

Namaste India English 2006

This year also Namaste Indiia 2006 was held in the huge Tokyo Yoyogi Park Event Area. It is the biggest festival of India in Japan. This is hosted by The NPO of Mithila Museum. There were large number of crowds hanging around in the park around various stalls and events related to India. It was said that in two days about 80,000 people visited here.

There were shops selling 'anything and everything' Indian. We found that the stall where recruitment for Indian company in India was being carried out was over crowded!. The host of the stall was overwhelmed with the response of Japanse people to work in India.

Septmber is just beginning of Autumn in Japan. I went near at half past 6 in the evening, but many people froze, and the stage still looked happy. Despite an organization supporting by a volunteer there was considerably good staff organizing the events.

Before Dr. Chandrakant's concert, the leaflets for the concert on Dec. 15 were distributed.

Most of the audience was looking forward to the concert and willingly accepted the leaflets. Perhaps many of his fans were there in the audience. It was getting darker and the strong winds started blowing. This was supposed to be the last event of the 2 days of the Festival.

Sakasegawa Kenji san was on Tabla with Tabe Kumiko on Tanpura. Dr. Chandrakant had to literally fight with the wind to tune the Sitar. The winds were not only affecting the tuning, but also the sound was affected at the same time. Audience was very patient to wait till all settled down and the beautiful melodies were heard. The harmony of the spiritual sound of Sitar wiped off the modern dance atmosphere on the stage. All including the stage director were very impressed to listen to this wonderful music.

Namaste India Japanese ナマステインディア2006

今年も東京の代々木公園イベント広場に於いて
日本における最も大きなインドのフェスティバル
ナマステインディア2006が開催されました。
天候にも恵まれて、たくさんの人が集いました。
入場者は、2日間で8万人！だったそうです。

たくさんのインド系のいろんなものがてんこ盛り
なんでもありの活気のある集まりでした。
私は夕方6時半近くに行きましたが
それでもステージは多くの人がいて楽しそうでした。
ボランティアで支えている組織とはいえ.
かなり感じのいいスタッフが多かったです。

Cancer Conference 癌学会

癌学会は、プネからバスで３ー４時間ほど離れた海抜１３００メートルの山の上の避暑地のリゾートホテルで行われました。美しいスイミングプールのある山上のホテルをほぼ借り切ってのイベントです。山の上のフレッシュな空気がブレインストーミング状態で疲れた頭には、よいうるおいを与えてくれました。でも、学会は朝から晩までほぼ休みなく続けられ、実際には美しい自然を愛でにいくヒマはありませんでした。

印度からも国外からも著名な腫瘍学者などが参加
しました。

参加者の感心はアーユルヴェーダは癌をなおせるのか？ということにつきると思うのですが、BSDTの癌プロジェクトはよい成果をあげているものの、年間150例とかですので、ひとつひとつ分野にわけると１５例とかその規模なので、科学的に何かを例証するほどのスケールになっていないのが残念なところです。

ですが、会場には４０名以上もの患者さんが集まってくれました。その殆どが、英語でなされる科学的な発表はわからないマラテイ語しか話せないにもかかわらず３日間ずっと会場に座っておとなしくきいていました。もしも西洋医学のお医者さん達がケースレポートをみて、もっと詳しく知りたいといった時に答えるためです。

そのための証人として彼等はここへ来ているんです。強制されたからではなく。癌をなおしてもらってドクターへの感謝から、彼等はその場にじっと控えていたんだろうと思います。数は少なくても、このこと自体がアーユルヴェーダで癌はなおせるのか？という問いの答えになっているように思えました。

また、５年前の会議では国際会議といいながらほとんどの発表がヒンデイ語やマラテイ語で、全然会議の呈をなしていませんでしたが、今回はすべての発表が英
語で、よく組織されたスタッフによってシステマテイックに運営されていました。この５年間でドクターはよいスタッフを育てたのだな、ということがよくわかりました。その中には医師免許をとったばかりの次男スクマ君の姿もありました。
